Obituary for Lillian I Yamori (Bertolino)

Yamori, Lillian Bertolino, a resident of Farmingdale for 54 years died on March 5th, 2018 at the age of 92. Devoted wife of Eiichi Yamori and loving mother to her son John Gatto. Lillian was a professional violinist, having had a very successful music career. She started music studies at age 7 and at age 13 competed in an All City Schools Violin competition in which she was the sole recipient of the NY Philharmonic Society Violin Scholarship. She was offered a fellowship at Julliard and was a member of the NYC Symphony under the direction of Leopold Stokowski and Leonard Bernstein. Member of the NYC Opera and Ballet and Brooklyn Symphony. Member and Soloist of the WQXR String Orchestra. She also taught at Adelphi College and did recording sessions. She was the only female violinist in the Radio City Music Hall Orchestra for 14 years. Her son John Gatto continues in his mother’s footsteps as a guitarist for the legendary band The Good Rats, Long Island Music Hall of Fame Inductees. Family will receive friends Thursday 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the McCourt and Trudden Funeral Home, Inc. 385 Main St. Farmingdale. Funeral Mass 9:45am-St.Kilian RC Church.
