William "Bill" Francis Carney

William "Bill" Francis Carney, a retired Deputy Chief of Police for New York City, passed away on July 16, 2023, at the age of 91. Born on July 26, 1931, in New York, Bill lived a remarkable life filled with love, dedication, and a strong sense of duty. A proud veteran of the US Army, he served his country with honor and valor.

Bill's career spanned an impressive 39 years in law enforcement before his retirement in 1993. As Deputy Chief of Police for the bustling city of New York, he tirelessly worked to maintain peace and harmony within the community. His unwavering commitment to serving and protecting others earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and community members alike.

Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Kilian’s Council 2204 and St. Thomas Moore Council 7403 for 60 years.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bill was known for his loving nature and unwavering devotion to his family. Dolores Carney, his beloved wife of 68 years, stood by his side as his constant source of support and strength. Together they raised three wonderful children who brought immeasurable joy to their lives.

Family was everything to Bill, and he took immense pride in raising his children. The memories created during their family travels throughout New England will forever hold a special place in their hearts. He had a particular fondness for ensuring that the lawn was perfectly manicured – a testament to his meticulous nature and attention to detail.

Alongside his career as a police officer, Bill cultivated several hobbies that brought him immense happiness. He had a passion for carpentry and found solace in creating beautiful pieces from wood. The intricate craftsmanship displayed in each creation was a testament to his hardworking nature.

In his leisure time, Bill enjoyed playing golf – a sport that allowed him to unwind while surrounded by nature's beauty. It is through these hobbies that he revealed his creative side and left behind tangible legacies that will be cherished for generations.

Bill's memory will forever be treasured by his family, who survive him. Rosemarie Young and her husband Charles, Bill Carney and his wife Linda, and James Carney and his wife Manana all hold him dear in their hearts. His love extends beyond immediate family, as he is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

In addition to his loving family, Bill was predeceased by his parents Joseph Leo Carney and Mary Ellen O'Brien Carney, as well as his brother Joseph Carney. Their memory will forever live on.

The family will receive friends at the McCourt Trudden Funeral Home, 385 Main Street, Farmingdale, New York 11735 on Firday, July 21, 2023 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm and 5:00pm to 8:00pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at St. Kilian Catholic Church, 485 Conklin Street, Farmindale, New York 11735.
