Obituary for Walter Robert Strubel

Walter Robert Strubel was born on May 7, 1930 in Long Island City to Selma and Karl. Growing
up in Astoria he worked in a hardware store and alongside his dad, a professional painter.
Walter attended Bryant High School. A faithful Lutheran all his life, he met his wife to be,
Norma, in confirmation class at Trinity Lutheran in Astoria.
Walter received his BS and MS from Hofstra College. This is where he proposed to Norma and
then started onto NYU Dental School.
Walter served in the Dental Corp of the United States Army in Germany from 1956-58. Upon
returning, he opened his private practice in South Farmingdale for 40 years.
Throughout his practice, he taught at Farmingdale College in the Dental Hygiene program. He
was a member of Kiwanis, Farmingdale Planning Board and Church Council at St. Luke’s
Lutheran Church in Farmingdale.
Walter lived an amazing life. He had a group of friends with whom the fun never stopped!
Walter loved the Caribbean, cruises, tours and fishing for years in Maine and on the Great
South Bay with his son.
In retirement, Walter left his home of 30 years in Farmingdale and settled into Calverton for 18
more. Walter enjoyed painting, fishing, gardening, model making and reading. He loved
sharing stores.
Walter lived his last year at Brandywine Assisted Living in Melville. Walter was married to
Norma for 70 years. They had three children, Eric (Tammy), Tina (Mike) and Lisa. Walter
adored his seven grandchildren with all his heart: Samantha (Jesse), Michael (Alexa), Cassie,
Kyle, Cailee, Cole and Carly. His years blessed him as well with a beautiful great
granddaughter, Leda Ray.
He was so loved, respected and will be greatly missed by many.
