Obituary for Tracy Hiatt Sorensen

Tracy Hiatt Sorensen, 53, passed peacefully surrounded by members of his family on October 17, 2021 from complications of colon cancer.
Tracy was born December 19, 1967 in Greensboro, NC. He was the fourth of five children born to Cliff and Rebecca Sorensen. The family moved to Idaho Falls, ID where Tracy graduated from Skyline High School. Tracy served two years as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the California Oakland Mission (Cambodian speaking).
Tracy is notorious for the number of different jobs (over 60) that he held before deciding he wanted to study law. He graduated from Utah Valley University in Finance and then was awarded his Juris Doctorate from The Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University and his Masters of Laws in Bankruptcy from St. John’s School of Law. At his passing, Tracy had achieved his goal and was a senior managing associate in Dentons’ Capital Markets practice.
Tracy really loved his “girls”, Cortney and Charlotte. Tracy married the love of his life, Cortney Scott in 2007 and they had their daughter, Charlotte, in 2011. It quickly became clear that Charlotte was Tracy’s world. He made spending time with Charlotte his hobby. He would walk their bikes to pick her up from school so they could ride around together after school. They established a truck sleepover tradition of camping in the truck by the house so they could stay up late watching movies.
Tracy loved his family and friends and always made time to be with them. His greatest joy was making others around him happy, especially if he could do it while watching BYU football. After his passing, family and friends gathered and were able to tell hours of stories of all the loving, funny, and crazy things that Tracy did to bring everyone together. His premature loss is felt keenly and he is deeply missed.
Tracy was preceded in death by his father, John Clifford Sorensen, Jr. and brother, Clifford Garrett Sorensen. He is survived by his wife, Cortney Scott; daughter, Charlotte Rose Sorensen; mother, Rebecca Sorensen; sisters, Tonja Brown (Steven) and Susan Makinson (John); brother, Christopher Sorensen (Camille); and numerous nieces and nephews.
