Obituary for Richard A Wright
Richard A. Wright, age 88, died peacefully on January 14, 2023. A longtime resident of Smithtown, New York, wife of late Joan (nee Fitzpatrick), father to Susan (Pete) Mathieson, Sally (James) Rienzo, Thomas (Phyllis) Wright, and Richard (Janet) Wright; grandfather to Caroline, Christine, Diana, Matthew, Kevin, Christopher, John, Jessica, Dan and Aidan.
Richard was born in Rome, New York and raised in Rockville Centre, New York where he graduated from Southside High School. He graduated from Cortland State College and became an English teacher in the Levittown Public School district where he worked for 35 years.
During his time as a teacher, Richard coached high school soccer, wrestling and baseball, umpired high school and college baseball, and refereed lacrosse.
An avid sports fan, Richard loved baseball most of all and was a lifelong and diehard Yankees fan, even though the Yanks pitching always “stunk” and “nobody can hit.” A great reader and crossword puzzler, he was a quiet man who will be missed.
