Marie E. Zenker was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, who passed away peacefully on September 22, 2022.
Marie (known as "Oopala" to her great-grandchildren) was born to William and Marie Elizabeth Cross in Brooklyn, NY on March 29, 1929 and married Robert T. Zenker in 1948. They settled in Hicksville, NY to raise their family. While in Hicksville, Marie ran the Teen Group at Holy Family Parish and the guitar group that played at weekly mass.
Marie was an accomplished legal secretary and devoted part of her free time to her local parish activities. She was President of the San Diego Legal Secretaries Association, parish lector, eucharistic minister and led the Nocturnal Adoration Society at St. Mary Magalene's Parish in San Diego.
Marie's most cherished times were spent with her family. Summers in Lake George for over 50 years as well as every birthday, anniversary, graduation, or any special family occasion were never missed. She loved to sing and was a skilled piano player and was always up for a sing along. Marie had a love affair with chocolate, pretzels, lifesaver mints, the fame of "chicken feet" and watching the Hallmark Channel with her son Bob as they discussed each segment of the movies.
Wife of the late Robert T. Zenker, Mother of Marie, Bob (Jean Ann), Tom (Coleen), and Ron, Grandmother of Brock, Alec, Chloe, Ben, Victoria, Dan (Lauren), Jim (Jaclyn), Nikki and Tommy, Great-grandmother of Mason, Maeve, Mackensie, Kylie and Avery.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that people make donations in support of Mended Little Hearts of Long Island.
