ISABELLA OBERG
Isabella Oberg, 85, of Hillsdale, New Jersey, died Monday, April 6, 2020, after a brief but brave battle with Covid-19. Isabel was a 49-year resident of Hillsdale where she lived an active and independent life. After a 33-year career as office manager at JB Offset Printing in Westwood, New Jersey, Isabel enjoyed a long and happy retirement.
Isabel loved animals and had many pets in her lifetime, most recently her beloved Chihuahua Penny. To her longtime friends in her Hillsdale community, Isabel was the cheerful and dependable neighbor that was always willing to lend a hand. To her cherished extended family with whom she loved to celebrate holidays, Isabel was the warm and generous sister, aunt and cousin who never missed an important event.
For many years, exploring the world was Isabel’s passion. She succeeded in traveling to many destinations on her bucket list, including tours and cruises to Europe, the Mediterranean Sea and the Caribbean islands. As someone who genuinely loved wildlife and nature, a two-week African safari was the pinnacle of her adventures. Some of her other pleasures were tending her gardens, feeding the flocks of birds in her backyard (and one special squirrel), attending weekly mass at St. Margaret of Antioch Church in Pearl River, New York, and socializing with friends at the local senior luncheons.
Born Isabella Parisi on October 18, 1934, in Astoria, Queens, New York, she is the daughter of her late parents Frank and Philomena (nee DeCesare) Parisi. Isabel attended Dominican Commercial High School in Jamaica, Queens, before settling in New Jersey. She was predeceased by her brother Salvatore Parisi and is survived by her loving sister Philomena (Phyllis) Cerbini; nephew Nicholas Cerbini and wife Marcela; niece Joyce Spinelli; niece Sally and husband Chris Esposito; and her great nieces and nephews Paul, Olivia, Celeste, Sofia and Isabella. Isabel will also be remembered fondly by her many first and second cousins.
A private burial service will be held on April 17, 2020, at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York. A memorial service is planned for summer 2020 in Bergen County, New Jersey (place and time to be announced).
In lieu of flowers, donations in Isabel’s memory can be made to either of her favorite retreats: the Bronx Zoo (https://secure.wcs.org/donate/show-up-for-the-zoo) or the Bronx Botanical Gardens (https://www.nybg.org/join-support/honor-memorial-gifts/).
