Obituary for Charles W Strauhs

Charles W. Strauhs, age 91, of Farmingdale on November 25, 2022, passed peacefully after a prolonged illness. Beloved husband of 67 years to Audrey. Loving father to his three girls: Karen (Paul), Leslie (Robert), and Linda. Cherished Grandpa to Brendan (Diana), Kevin (Stefanie), Dylan (Dianna), Matthew, Maegan, Jake, and Jessica. Loving Great-Grandpa to Everett.
Charlie led an exemplary life of public service. He proudly served his country during the Korean War. He worked for a short time as a NYC police officer, before finding his true calling as a NYC firefighter. Retiring after 25 years on the job, he then became head of groundskeeping at Winthrop Hospital for the next twenty years.
Charlie loved to landscape and garden, root for his beloved NY Islanders and travel the world with his dear and devoted wife, Audrey. It was, however, his family that was the center of his world. He showered his daughters with love and affection, and they reciprocated the adoration. A devoted and doting grandfather, he spent countless hours playing and entertaining his many grandchildren. He rarely missed any of their activities or athletic events, despite the travel distance required to get there. His unwavering love and influence on all of them left an indelible mark that will be cherished forever.
A uniquely kind and special man who touched everyone who ever met him, he will be greatly missed. We all feel blessed to have been a part of his wonderful life.
Rest in peace, Charlie. We will love you forever.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Alzheimer’s Disease Research (brightfocus.org/stopAD) would be greatly appreciated.
