Obituary for Audrey Strauhs

Audrey, 89, passed peacefully on April 8, 2023, after a long and heroic battle with cancer. A longtime resident of Farmingdale, where she and her beloved husband of 67 years, the late Charles, raised their close-knit family. Loving mother to her three girls: Karen (Paul), Leslie (Robert), and Linda. Cherished Grandma to Brendan (Diana), Kevin (Stefanie), Dylan (Dianna), Matthew, Maegan, Jake, and Jessica. Loving Great-Grandma to Everett.
She took great pride in the home she had so passionately and lovingly created. Her decorating skills were exquisite. Immensely skilled in horticulture, she dedicated countless hours to her plants and flowers, bringing a true aesthetic touch to her gardens. They never failed to garner enthusiastic praise from friends and neighbors.
It was, however, the love and care with which she filled this extraordinary home that was so exemplary. Her selfless devotion to family was second to none. She served as class mother, Brownie leader and anything else that was needed for her three daughters throughout their childhood. She cared diligently and compassionately for Charlie during his long illness. The love, tenderness and generosity that she focused on her grandchildren will never be forgotten by any of them. None of them ever had a school or athletic event that she wouldn’t go to immense lengths to attend. They all still talk about the sleepovers at “Grandma Audrey and Grandpa Charlie’s house” with the most loving nostalgia.
If it’s true that we live on in what we’ve left behind, Audrey burns on with her legacy of love, compassion, and generosity.
We love you, Audrey, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma. You will be a cherished part of our hearts forever.
